Noah floated above the crowd this weekend picking up a slightly better than expected 44 Million in total box office for the three days, which made up for the slight underperformance of Sabotage (5.4 Million). Adding to the total was the debut of Chavez in a moderate release scoring 3 Million.
Those totals as were as expected a little down from last year, but the week will probably finish out significantly worse percentage wise as the weekday numbers, bolstered by having an early Easter on 3/31 were much stronger than is anticipated this year. We will not see the Easter bump until late April this year.
Next week the big boy on the block will be Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Cap will be up against soft competition from last year so we should return to the year over year positives we’ve been seeing for the bulk of the year thus far. An inkling of the Marvel superhero’s power is given by the strong international debut of 75 Million in 32 territories this past weekend.
In IMAX news, Noah scored about 6.2 million in 341 runs this past weekend for about a 14% share of total gross. Domestic runs on Captain America will bow next week as well likely replacing some of the domestic screens on Noah.
