The world of J.R.R. Tolkien led the pack again with Frozen not far behind. Of the openings, The Wolf of Wall Street led. The rest of the openings, Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Grudge Match, and 47 Ronin were unspectacular but did have good Cinemascore results at B+ (see below), while Wolf came in at a C, considerably at odds with the online polling shown below.
Our results are 12% ahead of last year over the weekend, and given that we should beat last year again next week. The only wide opening on 1/3 is Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones. While it is pretty much the only horror game in town right now, the franchise has seen better days. Still the last few Paranormals have been heavily front loaded so that bodes well for next week.
Overall we finish the year up in both revenue and attendance.
Have a Happy New Year and may the box office bring smiles to your faces.
